Amnesty International's

chapters 9 and 280 in Manhattan

Welcome to our website!

We are a group of people who meet once a month in midtown Manhattan because of our shared commitment to human rights around the world.  We organise protests and social events - and work with other Amnesty groups in the New York area.

As a group, we're involved in a number of campaigns: we work for the release of Myo Min Zaw, a Burmese student sentenced to 52 years in prison for his pro-democracy activities, writing petitions and holding demonstrations (see below). Periodicaly we organize, panel discussions, screening and events, ranging from a special screening of a documentary on Ralph Bunche at the National Arts Club, and the feaure film The Road to Guantanamo, to a panel on Ending Violence Against Women in African Conflict Zones. In 2005 we organised a children's war drawings exhibition at Chelsea Art Museum

and at United Nations. Some of our members concentrate on Amnesty's Death Penalty campaign. Children's Rights is one of the subjects that many of 280 & 9 members are interested in.

Meetings.

We usually meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month in midtown Manhattan at 7:30 pm.
